Code P0449 is GHEY!
#1
My truck has had a code on it for months. It is the evap solenoid and I heard it is common. Well, my tags are now due so I decided to get it fixed. Stupid AutoZone and O'Reilly said they only sale it with the entire fuel pump. Anyone know if I can actually just get the solenoid or do I really have to get the whole damned thing?

does it need the purge solenoid or the vent solenoid? Either way, they have nothing to do with the fuel pump, so buying a fuel pump won't help. I would bet that the vent solenoid or canister is clogged up with dirt/debri. Do you go mudding or off road alot?

They probably thought you wanted the tank pressure sensor. It's on the fuel pump. You're probably going to have to go to the dealer. I think there is an updated cannister vent solenoid that requires you to get some heater hose to relocate part of it.

It is the EVAP vent solenoid. The truck is just a daily driver but it has had its fair share in some mud on jobsites. It also already has 86k on it from driving 200+ miles a day. I just need a simple solenoid, not an entire fuel pump. Anyone know what part to order?

Whoever is trying to tell you that you need a fuel pump assembly to fix the Evap Solenoid, is a moron. You've got an Evap code, and it's either going to be the Evap Vent Valve or the Evap Vent Solenoid. One in on your Intake manifold and the other, more common one (that I do at least 2 a week) is mounted under the bed of the truck.

P0449 is either the vent solenoid or a clogged charcoal cannister. If you drive on a lot of dirt roads the cannister is more than likey plugged. Pull it down and tap it on the ground if dirt falls out it is no good. Replace along with the valve.
