Default Cleaning Engine

I've got oil residue on my valve covers that Chevy says is normal and not "wet" enough to need the valve cover gaskets replaced. With the coils mounted on the valve covers it's hard to get in there and wipe everything clean and I'm very gun shy of spraying degreaser in there and hitting it with a pressure washer with all the electronics on and around the engine.

What do you guys use to keep that area clean?

What I've found works best is "Orange Blast" from Greased Lightning. It seems to be the best for spraying on, and washing off with a garden hose. I don't think you have to worry about the electrical connections, they're sealed pretty good. Remember....DO NOT spray a hot engine!!

Purple Power all the way man that **** works wonders. I will be using it to clean the entire engine bay of my truck since the motor is out now. I used it on some baked on **** that was on the motor of my 4wheeler and it took most of it off and took the red clay residue right off of the plastic on it.

Cool!! i will have to try the purple poo! When i did my swap, i used 2 cans of brakleen on my motor cleaning it up. DO NOT USE SIMPLE GREEN!!! it will etch the aluminum on the heads and the valvecovers...especially if you have polished them!

Yeah thats why I said let me see if it messes mine up. I used some on my engine in my 4wheeler and it hazed the block a bit. It wont mess up plastic just doesnt like aluminum too well. The valve covers are cast something they look like **** and have alot of imperfections in them.

So....whats the concensus?

Orange blast?

Purple stuff is too strong.

Simple Green is too strong.

Is just a few cans of carb cleaner the way to go?

But it is okay to spray a pressure washer at the (cool) engine as long as you don't point it too close to any area?
