Default Cleaning The Air Sensor

Anyone with recomendations for cleaning the mass air flow sensor. I read somewhere that when using the oiled air filters that sometimes the sensor can get contaminated buy the oil resulting in loss performance and mileage.

Get some electrical contact cleaner. CRC makes some good stuff that you should be able to find pretty easy.

And then ditch the oiled filter and get a dry one!

PEP Boys or most other auto parts stores will have MAF or Mass airflow sensor cleaner. Be careful with stuff like carb cleaner or brake cleaner, they may chew up the plastic. I use the CRC mass airflow cleaner myself, CRC rocks.

Thanks fellas I have never taken one out to look at it. I have been running a K&N air filter for years and never thought much about the sensor getting oil residue on it from the filter recharge till I ran accross an article about this issue.

yeah, oil residue on the sensor will casue it to malfunction, your IAT sensor is in there too. I just pull the filter and tube off my airbox and hit it with some crc when I do a filter cleaning.
