6.0, stall, traction = 13's and will be right with most lightnings
then add any power adder and be a mile ahead. nitrous, magna, sts, front mount turbo...... that is the hard decision, wich power adder to go with.

The reason I want to keep the 4.8L. I'm just impressed with this engine. I could always get a 99 or 2000 gmc and sell the engine in that to get a 6.0 or a 402. I may just get another truck. Why harm the new truck.

400HP 4.8's arnt that hard to come buy. Parish got over 500 with a compleatly stock 4.8 and just the right amount of boost, even on the stock cam. I got his phone number when internet stocking him. Ill give him a call and ask him about it.

a motor swap is really prety easy and then you will have the 4.8 on reserve just in case something goes wrong. for the price of a 6.0 it is hard to beat.
the only reason to stick with the 4.8 is if you want to go around saying you only have a 4.8. i can kind of understand that but for me it is all about going fast. i use every trick in the book and as far as tricks go there is no replacement for displacement.

Using the ET method, I come up with 393 horsepower
Using the Speed method, I come up with 411 horsepower
Hopefully I can tag some high 12s on these street tires.

As for as cost efficiency, the 6.0L is the way to go. I spent a lil over $1,600 on my motor and tuning. It was a 114 hp gain over the 4.8L and took me and 2 friends 14 hours to do the swap, turn key. You could easily spend 3K on a supercharger and get about that, slightly more or less.
One of my friends has a single cab 4.8L and we run neck and neck when he's on a 100 or 125 shot. My truck being an extra cab on 20's.
Honestly, it is just so much cheaper and more reliable to do the motorswap. If anything goes wrong, you still have your 4.8L to throw in over a weekend and a 6-pack. I still have my 4.8L within grasp....but the truck is running strong so I really just have it for insurance. I don't see it going back in anytime soon.
A 6.0L, stall, gears, Long tubes, decent tune, and MAYBE a mild cam will have you beating lightnings all day long. If you run across a modded one, have a 75shot handy and you wont have to worry too much.
Just to give you an idea, All i have done is 6.0L swap, Futral dynotune, ASM long tubes, Eaton posi (STILL USING stock 3.42 crappy GEARS!), comp cam 918 valve springs and a UPD intake......and I'm running 14.1's in an Extra cab on 20' wheels. Even if you just did the same mod's as I have, you'd should be in the high 13's. A stall, cam and gears on top of that....and well you get the idea.
