Default To Cam or not to cam?

Okay guys, i know no one can say anything for sure but its that time of the year again! So i would like yo do heads and cam with the miles i have.

My truck feels and runs super strong! Have a lifter making noise every so often so while im in there should do a cam.

Wanna go to 243s with 10.1.1 compression and do 1 7/8 headers with a tsp 220r cam. Of course new everything in the top end.

What would you do?

Also i did a valley cover gasket and knock sensors not to long ago and was able to see a piece of my cam lobes. Got a picture. Not bad for 295k huh? Shows why my lifter is making noise. BTW not metal just some dirty.

Cam looks fine from that picture, can't really see the top of the lobe where the factory cam's start to get chewed away.

That was just an opinion on the cam.

I think your thoughts towards the cam swap is still valid, I'd go for the mods you picked if that's the route you want to take.

Seems like it's a good choice of parts. Though upgrading headers doesn't seem worth it to me. The cam/heads would pick up a decent power for you.

The way I see it, may as well do the intake manifold and TB as well. Gotta pull all that **** off to do heads, may as well reassemble with more ponies.

I like the the list of parts, you're off to a great start. Personally wouldn't change a thing.

do a stall when you do your rear main

I was only upgrading for my buddy who wants a set. Not hoping for much with the swap.

I was looking at either a NNBS or TBSS intake while doing the swap. Heard a really gains with ut with a good cam.

Rear main was done alrrady but was planing on doing a Yank or Cirlce D 3500 stall. These 2wd trannys are super easy to get out anyways!

I would do it in a heartbeat. I have the original 4.8 out of my truck, 256K miles. Ran good, didn't burn oil. Just wasn't enough power, and I had a cammed LQ4 from my other truck. I am saving the 4.8 for a lighter vehicle, like an early Chevy II Nova.
