Default best way to tow truck?

so im moving my wife here soon and i need to know the best way to tow her truck here, its a 02 rcsb 2wd. i was just gona get a tow dolly and hook it behind the moving truck but my buddy told me it would burn up the tranny if i did that because there will be parts moving in the tranny and no fluid pumping. i could just pull the drive shaft and not worry about it or will it be fine to just put it up on the dolly, put it in neutral and make the 1200 mile trip?

If you are going to use the dolly, I would pull the driveshaft for a 1200 mile trip. Other wise, get a full trailer. Not sure which truck co. you are renting from but I know U-haul rents the aluminum full trailers which a RCSB will easily fit on.

Pull the shaft. It'll be cheaper on fuel to use a tow dolly.

Pulling the drive shaft is simple. Unbolt the 4 strap bolts on the rear diff and rope the driveshaft over to the side.

I agree. I'd much rather use a full trailer.

I don't think the U-haul trailers are rated for a full size truck though. I ran into this problem when I bought my last RCSB. I was going to use a 3/4 ton truck to tow the RCSB back with, but the U-haul rental trailer wasn't rated to carry the RCSB.

The only way I could have done it would have been to drive my little Honda Accord to get the truck and tow the Accord on the trailer pulled by the newly purchased RCSB. The U-haul car trailer was rated to handle the Accord, but not the RCSB.

I'm just guessing, but I'll bet a U-haul tow dolly isn't rated to handle a full sized truck either.

I ended up finding another driver and we drove both back with no trailer.

Cliff notes: Use someone other than U-haul if you want to haul a full size truck on a trailer.

isnt better to disconnect the shaft from the differential and tigh the shaft up to the chassis or bed cause if im not mistaken doesnt it leek tranny fluid if u pull out the shaft and have the truck in an angle from the dolly

According to uhaul a dolly is only rated for 3900lbs with a rear wheel drive vehicle. Dolly's can be a pain in the butt if you got to back up for some reason.

well im using budget truck rental and they said that they wont give me a dolly or a full size trailer so i am just gona tell them that we will be towing my firebird and then put the truck on it. so ill prolly just unbolt the drive shaft and strap it to the frame, do you think that will be ok?
