Default best truck for performance and mileage

ok if you had a clean slate what would you pick. I need a truck and id like something that is easily modded for some decent performance and still get reasonable gas mileage. I would think the 4.8 gets the best mileage, but I wonder if the difference from the 5.3 is minimal.

so if you could pick any truck between 00 and about 04 what would it be?? RCSB 5.3?? would a ECSB 6.0HD be better? what else?? 4x4? 2wd?? I prefer 4x4. it does snow where I live.

dont know what do you think?? what would be the best?? throw out whatever you would like.

Probably not the best mileage, but I'd probably go with an 05 AWD SS...it already has the LQ9 and has the extra cab to fit a baby seat, stroller, etc. I really like the styling, especially when it's lowered a few inches. It snows here in Jersey so the AWD is necessary for the winter. I'd probably mod it similar to the way my current truck is, mild dd cam, lt's, tune...probably a mild converter and heads too.

I don't think that the 4.8 gets that much better mileage than the 5.3 btw, since it has to work a little harder to get the weight moving than the 5.3 does. I don't know for sure but I'd think that they're about even...

If I could start with a new truck it would be a 1500 HD. It has everything I want: crew cab, 6 liter, 4l80e, 14 bolt rear. It would probably get the same mileage as I get now, around 12-13.

Get a RCSB Colorado with a 3.7L and put nitrous on it. You'll be able to get 25-27 mpg and run 12's.

You could even do the 5.3L colorado, in a lighter truck, it should get better mileage.

the colorado actually never crossed my mind. how do they do turbod?? what can you get with bolt one. I kinda fixated on the v8 trucks because they have to lsx motor and it makes stupid easy power. that said a colorado could definitely be interesting.

I also thought the 4.8 vs 5.3 mileage was probably a wash, there probably about the same.

bolt ons you could probably run high 13's in a 3.7L

turbo would be pretty sick, not too many out there, but Trick sells a kit for $3500.

i would get either an ss, vmax, or a 2500 light duty. The 2500 has the lighter frame like ours, 6.0, 80e, and 14 bolt. I don't know much about the new 5.3 colorado's but you would think that would be a good place to start too.
