I should clarify a bit:
I see that you're in Cali... I'm not sure what kind of terrain you'll be riding (I think you guys have EVERYTHING out there, right?)
An MX bike in gnarly woods is about as out of place as one of them could get. (besides maybe going street legal and running enduro's up here).
A MX bike on fast fireroads, very easy trails, desert, etc - should be perfectly fine.
It's the real gnarly muddy rocky rooty stuff they hate.

Thanks for all the replies. I am about 5'10" and I wiegh right at 200 (I know, I need to lose wieght). I am looking for something to rid mostly on trails, but some sand and mud. We have great dunes out here, but I think I am going to stay away from them for the time being. As far as the parts, there is a dealer in Riverside, but will they be as expesive on parts as car dealerships are?
I am really looking into gettng a bike that I can ride for fun, not competition. Like I said, my son who is 5, is going to be getting the new Honda 50. He is the one that deserves all of the attention. I was really curious about the reliaability of these bikes.
I have another question. I have seen a 1980 Husqvarna 390 for sale for 1200. I know the guy selling it and he is a very big fan of Husqvarna, he has eight of them. I then found a 1995 Husqvarna 250 for sale for 1500. I would think that the 1995 would be the better buy. Not sure though. I have also heard that a 125cc would not be very good for me. Sorry for all of the questions, but I am really new to motorcycles.
