Default Adding keyed door handles

Has anyone added keyed door handles to their truck/suv? I have a 2005 Silverado crew cab work truck and the key fobs are a pain in the *** while working all day. I would like to convert all the handles to keyed so i can either ditch the fobs or be less reliant on them.

Simple swap or not?

you need to get tumblers keyed to your key, probably some money there

I think the door locks are all the same, but you will need the handles/rods off a donor truck, try not to break the connecting hardware. The plastic tabs arent available separately that I have found, and they are generally pretty brittle after 15 yrs in the door

I dont think your rear doors can be keyed, because the locks arent capable of dealing with an external tumbler. No provisions for an external lock there

The front passenger should be easy as mentioned, find a donor truck for the parts. The rears have a different latch likely with child safety lock. Not sure if you can just use front door catches to make the swap. I have never tried it.

Sounds like i need to make a list for my next junkyard trip. Maybe i can “hack” the front parts into the rear doors. Thanks for the replies, guys

FYI- you can find those plastic retainer clips on amazon, they come in a multi pack with various sizes. Very handy because my passenger doors and tailgate all seemed to break at the same time.

I got a kit similar to this-
