Differences between early (99-02/03) and up trucks
I purchased a turbo kit from a member of this forum and I figured since it came off a 05 Silverado it would fit my 01 gmc no problem. Well come to find out I hardly have any room to mount the intercooler like he did with his truck. My question is what is actually different between the trucks? Is the core support more rearward of the truck? Is the frame different? I’d love to make this kit work even if I have to cut and move my entire core support rearwards lol

I have an 01 too and it's my understanding the 03+ trucks have the 34" radiator with electric fans. I would imagine this leads to a different placement for the ac condenser, trans cooler, etc. The core support and frames should be identical.

The frame and mounting points are the same as is the basic core support. It's the sheet metal and bumpers that changed on the silverado. The 03-07 have more space between the core support and the bumper. On the GMC's it's just basic face lift grill and bumper between 99-02 and 03-07. The GMC's are also similar in front area space to the 99-02 Chevy.

The electric fan trucks also got the 145 amp alternator.
Good to hear, upgrade your alternator to the 145 amp when you do the electric fans, they pull around 40 amps on high speed so the bigger alternator is really needed.

That's 05 and up light duty. The heavy duty kept the clutch fan for a while after 05 if I remember correctly.

The 145 amp as said really is a must. And the belt is 5/8" longer so unless your original is really stretched you need a belt too.

1500s all got e fans in 2005. No HD truck built to this day has electric fans other than some of the oddball 2500 and 3500 series Suburbans nobody cares about as they are only available as fleet vehicles.

You can reuse the shorter belt if you want. I've done it several times on trucks and F bodys. I like reusing it because it helps keep the belt on (more tension). I had a F body that tossed the belt all the time on the 1-2 shift or it would at least squeal. After putting on a 145 amp alt it stopped doing it since the belt was tighter.
