I dont think I would risk 1 my paint and 2 acetone softens all plastic and rubber, thats everything from your filler neck to gas tank to intake and some fuel lines and injectors. I use acetone to strip glue off of concrete floors not a fuel additive.

You can go ahead and try it, tell us all how it worked out for you

I have heard it works but I am not about to try it on somthing Im making payments on.
