Default ac belt replacement

Truck decided it wanted to throw the ac belt yesterday morning. That belt runs just the ac correct? How hard will it be for me to put a new one on?

not hard at all..
remove the serpentine belt, and then put the AC belt on..

you will need a 3/8" ratchet, and a 3" 3/8 extension..
Use the Ratchet alone to remove the serpentine belt..
just put the ratchet in the belt tensioner, and release the presure on the belt and remove.
use the ratchet, and extension to release presure on the AC belt..
install in reverse fasion.

Also, check and make sure that you can turn the tensioner and a/c clutch before you install the belt, just to make sure that nothing siezed, causing the belt to break. The a/c clutch will have tension, but should still be able to turn by hand (or hands) with some effort. The tensioner should freewheel...if all is OK, go ahead and install the belt. It's good to check first, just in case, so you don't end up buying the same belt twice.

Why remove the main belt? I can swap mine in about 60 seconds. Crawl under the truck, move the tensioner, swap belt, release tensioner, stand up, Grab beer.

the a/c belt is on the same pulley as the main belt, just behind it. if it threw the belt you'll probably need a compressor. a while back at the shop we were replacing a lot of compressors because they siezed. they sound fine at idle but at higher rpm you could here the tensioner start to click. i think they decided to add a little more oil into the system.

I guess I worded that wrong. Have a buddy pull the tensioner on top enough to drop some slack from the crank pulley while you are underneath swapping the AC belt. Then you release your tensioner and then slide the main belt back on and have your buddy release his tensioner.

I still have the clutch fan and a 50ft belt due to the radix so I do whatever I can not to pull it off cause its a bitch to get back on.
