Default 99 sierra power window issue

Is it common for a window motor going out not to work, but I tapped on the plastic part and when I got close to the metal part it started working.

Now I cut the truck off and come back 30 mins later and it won't do nothing again unless tapped on. Needless to say I think the motor is bad and I need to change it.

However if it was bad wouldn't not work at all?

Could this be the window cable binding somehow?

The regulators crap out all the time. The motor can still be good but the mechanism has too much resistance.

You replace the whole window regulator. The motor/cables/mechanism is the regulator. Like this, $100:
