Default 98 5.7 3500 won't start

It's a friend's truck...chugged for awhile before it died. Is there a how-to for this. I've read and heard some general stuff about replacing the pump but any advuce would bemuch appreciated. I know about the search function but direct help is always better.

So you sure it's the pump?

I don't hear the charge with the key ON but the bob-bong-bong sound is loud and might be drowning it out. I swapped relays and checked fuses in the box under the hood. I could spray some starting fluid into the TB and see if it fires on that.

It had been "chugging along" for a long time. I think the symptoms had been gettig worse before it died.

Check pressure @ the rail. If no pressure it could be the pump or fuel filter, depending if it's getting power to the pump. This truck is probably a long bed or dually right? I'd say pull the bed if you got a couple of buddys to help. Remember to change fuel filter when changing pump.

It's a long bed. He called about 15 min ago...we're going to work on it today. I don't know if we can get enough help to lift the bed but we'll try.

I don't have a f.p. gauge. Is there another way to check pressure besides cracking a fitting?

BTW,he said he could hear the priming sound over the bonging noise when it was running normally.

I'd try some starting fluid in the throttle body and see if it kicks...
