The 65-67 body style had the improved suspension and could handle the mid engine V8. There were plenty of turbo corvairs running in the high 11's on DR in the 60's. Paul Genalozzi (sp?) was famous for them...The ran about 15+ lbs of boost on stock trans.

There were several of the mid-engine conversions running SCCA events without problems and one fellow from Kansas was autocrossing one of them into the late 90's and kicking everyones butt.

I really don't know that much about them so take what I say with a grain of salt. The "Unsafe at any speed" was a reference to the book by Ralph Nador that killed the Corvair. There were several roll over accidents with the stock units that prompted Nadors book. Believe the big controversy was the independent rear suspension was suspect from the factory.

That was the original suspension (90-93) that had the problems. Usually happened to someone going about 80 mph and they would make a quick maneuver or lane change and end up in the ditch. Happened to my neighbor and he rolled about 4x.

What engine was in it the 110 hp the 140hp or the turbo. The latter two are more in demand.

I will check with a few friends who are restoring them and see what they need.

The 140 hp had 4 carbs, two for each bank. The stock air cleaner had a single opening and feed each carb.
