Lightbulb 502 RamJet

Hello everyone ,,,,

I'm planning to drop 502 ramjet on my GMC 05 1500 Z-71 4.8L 5 speed manual 4.10 gear ratio, but the problem is i don't know which transmission i should use auto or manual. If auto which one well work for daily driver ? If the manual and this is what i need which the best transmission?

As far as which transmission, put whatever you like the best in there in my opinion. I do have to ask though, why do you want to drop a 502 in your truck?? It would be a very involved swap, and if you are going to use it as a daily driver (as your post says) it would be alot easier and better(in my opinion) to do some sort of an lsx based swap...

actually the swap wouldnt be too difficult, but i wouldnt do it! The LSX engines offer plenty of power with good gas mileage or altleast better then that 502 lol.

but if you really want to do it then go for it!

You've got some PCM issues here to think about, and that determines what I would do if I were you.

1. - If you want to use the ECM that comes with the RamJet 502 then it will be easiest to put in a manual transmission. I would choose a T56 with an LT-4 clutch from an LT-1 or LT-4 F-body car.

2. If you want to use the stock computer then it would be easiest to get the harness from a 8.1L Suburban, Yukon XL, or Avalanche and install a 4L80-E or 4L85-E transmission. Some of the 8.1L parts will be needed too, like the coil packs. I'm not sure what differences there are between the 8.1 and 8.2L crank sensors. You'll be able to leave the distributor in there, just not connected - can't see it anyway. Program the PCM with a tune from one of the above vehicles and it will run like it was made that way.

As for the rear end though, I would choose 3.42 gears with a RamJet 502. That engine makes huge torque down low, enough to cruise at 85mph turning only 1400RPM. Big blocks suck fuel and using its torque is the only thing that can sort of make up for it.

The RamJet 502 is EFI. An ECM is required.

jblack6527 the resone i pic the 502 RamJet because this engine has enough power without supercharge or turbocharger i'm talking about 510hp and 550tq .
lsx great engines but still not enough power, i'm running now 4.8L with magnacharger 3.40 pulley +headers and exhaust system still under 500hp. thank you for your support.

DLH2006 Thank you very much. But the last thing i care about is the gas mileage, its around 25c per liter in my country. LSX as i said its great engines better gas mileage, but if i use 6.0L how much power do you think i'll get? 345hp stock power with a supercharger maybe 500hp and 520tq with 6-7 psi thats great power but if i can get a big block with 510hp and 550tq stock power, in my opinion the 502 ramjet better than LSx engines.

James B Thank you very much and appreciate your support. i'll check the T56 transmission, about the 3.42 greas the mechanic told me this the best for the 502 ramjet.

I think you could easily get 500+ hp NA with a 408 motor and not have to deal with all of the issues trying to use a big block, but I'm no expert.
