Default 5.3 Mpg?

ok this is my first post on this site but im not new to trucks...
Ive been into building 80's (Chevrolet) 4x4's for a wile now and played around with cars too
Ive been looking for a DD that will get better gas miliage then my truck I have now because I have to drive alot more now and the price of gas, I was seriously looking into buying a 98-99 LS1 Camaro with a 6Speed and though that would be a real cool car to drive around in and still be good on gas. But Im really more of a truck guy so I started thinking about like a 00 SBRC 5.3 auto. But how good are these on gas compared to a LS1 Car?

First, welcome noob,

It all depends on the gears really, and what you want to do with modding it. Once you start modding it, you can't stop because you just want more. Anyway, the Cam or T/A will get great mileage even making upwards of 400+hp with 4.** gears in the *** because of the 6 speed. A buddy of mine had a T/A running 10's with 4.30 gears and still getting 21mpg on the highway. You can't do that in a truck due to weight and aerodynamics and gearing. If you get a 2wd you should get high teens. If you get a 4wd you should get around 14-16 or so depending on the gearing. With 4.10 factory gears in my 00 silvy 4x4 ec before my nelson tune I was getting about 13.6mpg avg. After the tune I went up to low 14's. So it all depends.

I am getting anywhere from 13-15 in the city and up to 18 on the highway. It just depends on rear gearing and 2wd and 4wd as stated above. It also depends on mileage alot of times. I can tell you that my 97 z71 when I bought it, it got 112-14 in the city and 16 on the highway with 3.73 and 350 engine. After I put on my 33's and I got 17 on the highway and 10 in the city. When I got rid of my truck with 85k on the odometer she get 7 in the city and 12 on the highway. alot of different variables but a nelson tune and a few other things can really help.

Average 16.45 MPG I check my gas milage everytime I fill up. I run 93 octane or higher. The lowest was 13 and highest was 18. But I drive for gas milage, Wife hates to ride with me, says I drive like an old man. DUI's tend to slow ya down. My wife got 13 but she drives like a 17 year old lead foot.

Man ,I was hoping for better gas milage than I was getting after buying the new truck but I guess I should be happy after reading this.

04' EX-Cab Z-71 3.73,K&N Cold Air kit,87 oct. and I get 17.5-18.5 mpg interstate and a little city driving.Cruise set on 70-75 every chance I get on interstate with the ocasional (spelling?) hammer down and pass, and taking it easy on her on the side streets.

I usally get about 15.5 in town and I have never run a full tank on the highway. Best I've got was a little over 18 with half city, half highway. I dont usually drive for fuel milage.

Fbody guy chiming in. Depending on how you drive i've gotten down to 16mpg city, no worse than trucks I average 20mpg mixed city/highway/slightly agressive driving style.

my vortec 350 ranged from 11-15 and rare occasion 17 on non stop highway trips. The true dual setup I had actually improved MPG.
