Default 4.8.......Hows it compare.

Fixin to by a slowverado and was wondering what the thoughts were on the 4.8. Im not looking for big time performance. Just looking for a nice truck that has what it needs to get around.

Eather the 4.8 or the 5.3 will get the job done. However, if you can get the 5.3, get it.

I am not at all upset that I got a 4.8L instead of the 5.3L.
Mine will surprise alot of people
without being on NOS, or being S/C

Get an intake, exhaust and tune and you will be fine.

I would get the 5.3 also if it were me. I don't think any of us were looking for "big time performance" (as you put it) when we bought these trucks....it just kinda worked out that way! Modding these trucks is right up there with crack as far as getting "hooked" goes!

It depends whether you buy a used or new truck. My 99 rcsb 4.8 had only 255 hp and out-ran a older z-28, but couldn't take my friend's 5.3. I looked around at the new 04 models and the 4.8's hp increased to 285 and the 5.3 went from 285hp to 295hp in 04. So, I'd say get an 4.8 and enjoy the better mpg. My 99 got 18-19 mpg and my 02 ecsb 5.3 gets about 16 mpg(it's also a lot heavier!).
