Default 285/50/20 on a 20x8?

Anybody running this setup on a truck? And can it be safely done? Approved rim width for a 285/50/20 says 8.0-10.0" rims will work just seems like it might be a stretch? Looking at the Nitto 420s and a 20x8 Stingray III, any input on this?

A stretch would be trying to mount that tire on a 7.5" rim. The ranges posted by the manufacture are the SAFE recommended ranges. There should be no problem at all. Do it, if that is what you want.

FYI - that is a tall tire if you a 2WD. The 265/50r20 would be a much better choice is you are 2WD. But that's just my opinion.

i have 275/45/20s on my truck with a 3/4 drop. they fit good, 285/50/20s or even 285/55/20s should be fine on a stock height truck 2wd or 4wd

You ever weigh that setup or happen to have the overall height? Did they stick outside the wheelwells at all, it almost looks like they do just slightly in that pic? 20x8 w/ a 5" Backspace I guess? Was considering running that setup w/ a 1"/3" drop

I have 285/50-20's on my Joe Gibbs wheels (same as 2k5Squirrel)...I think they are 8 or 8.5, not sure. No issues here.

I never did weigh them; the tires were heeeaaavvvvyyy though considering the size. The overall height on them was 31". The tires were about even with the outside of the fenderwells; I'm running a 275/45 now and they tuck front and rear with the rear fender lips rolled so it's not the best offset but its ok.

Thanks for the info. Yea all the 285/50's I have seen are running around 39-44 lbs. Still not terrible w/ a 24 lb Stingray III tho. Did you rub w/ the 285's at all? And did you notice a big diff in acceleration/braking when going from stock to the centerlines?

I did notice a difference in acceleration with them; you really need 4.10's for that size tire. They didn't rub at all; I was going to do a 2/4 with them but ended up going with a smaller tire and a 3/6......and trust me, they look awesome on a 2/4 and won't rub except maybe on bad bumps.
