its only the 04 and 05 crew cabs. no one really knows what the problem is but there is a PI out from GM about this. they are supposedly going to fix the problem next year. so if hes looking to buy he might want to wait.

I have 20's on my 04 and have had no problems. I have also seen the dealerships putting 20 inch + wheels on trucks on the lot. What seems to be the issue? Does anyone know?

I heard some BS about the rear leaf spring mount bending.

Subject:GM/Chevrolet 1500 Crewcab 2wdJ4wd
MEMO
TO: ALL DTC/ATC STORES
SUBJECT: GMC/CHEVY 1500 CREW CAB 2WD/4WD (4DOOR TRUCK ONLY)
General Motors has currently stopped all sales of 20-inch fitments on 2004-2005 GMC/CHEVY 150’ CREW CAB 2WD/4WD and will be replacing those already sold due to an issue with a rear suspensi forward leaf spring bracket bending. GM has a reinforced bracket that is expected to be implemented with the start of the 2006 model year. They are currently replacing the 20-inch with the 16 or 17-inch original equipment.
Due to this, Discount Tire Company has decided to NOT SELL any tire and wheel packages larger t
18-inches for this vehicle. This is ONLY for the 2004-2005 GMC/CHEVROLET 1500 CrewCab
2WD/4WD (4 door models only). With regards to prior sales of this particular fitment, we are waitin to
see how GM proceeds on this issue and we will advise you further.
Sincerely,
Gary Ruede

nope its true. heres the PI:

04-05 Chevrolet Silvverado/GMC sierrra 20-inch wheels stop sell on 1500 crew cab with 5 foot 8 inch bed- GMT800 tire rim 03-03-10-006 information suspension steering VSS20040060 #PIT3235 - (oct 22, 2004)

administrative message VSE20040060

Effective immediatly , we have been advised by GM Vehicle Engineering to stop selling dealer installed 20-inch plus size wheels offered as Chevrolet or GMC accessories on the 1500 crew cab version of Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra light duty pickups (models C and K 15543, CC15542, CK15543, TC15543, TK15543). the stop sell is only for the crew cab- no other body styles are impacted. continued durability and validation testing has identified a long term durability issue that could potentially damage a suspension braket and the vehicle frame. changes to the crew cab have been identified and will be implemented next year. until further notification, 20 inch plus size wheels are no longer valid for this body style. Since the crew cabhas a unique suspension bracket interface to the frame, this condition does not apply to other body styles.

All crew cabs equipped with 20 inch plus size wheels in dealer invintory should not be sold. the original tires and wheels from the factory should be reinstalled. Accessory distributor installers have been asked to assist dealers where applicable in restoring crew cabs outfitted with 20 inch plus size wheels in inventory back to the original factory wheels. further instuctions will follow relitive actions, if any that may be required for customer owned crew cabs with 20 inch plus size wheel. we appriciate your support in working through this sitiation. it is because GM thoughly validates its wheel and tire systems to each vehicle application that this condition was found. Chevrolet and GMC 20 inch plus size wheel mey continue to be installed on all other previously communicated full sixze truck and utility applications.
