The Silverado SS drivetrain has always been a parts-bin package. Starting with a 4WD 1500 chassis, add the Escalade transfer case, transmission, and engine.
The 2007 Denalis are 380HP and the Escalades are 407HP both with the 6.2L DOD VVT all aluminum engine. The SS and Escalade have always shared the same HP levels. There's no reason why the new SS would not get the same treatment. Even the previous Denalis had a lesser HP than the Escalade and SS.
The 6.2 is very strong. I got a chance to go hot-rodding in a Denali-XL with it and the 6L80-E. It's got awesome torque and feels uninhibited by torque management. (There's got to be some going on since it's drive-by-wire, but it sure feels good.) The downshift to first gear in that boat of an SUV is almost enough to pull the seat-belt tensioners. This drivetrain with the extra 27 HP in a pickup would be crazy fast for a stock truck.

I am willing to bet they saw more of a market in the SUV SS area than a pick up SS area. The TBSS is new and they are selling them fast. The SSS has been out for quite a while and they know what the sales will have in store. It may not be worth it to them. They still were able to sell the SSS, even with the LQ9, so why take a chance in bumping up the price a few more grand and take the chance of losing the younger market who cannot afford something that costs $45k or more?
Just my thoughts, I could be way off base since I am sitting in a TBSS. I can tell you that if they were offering an engine pushing more than 400hp in the SSS, I may have bought one instead of the TBSS, but not if it was over $40k. I bought my fully loaded TBSS for $35k.

i think that befor we start asking for more power lets aim to get a better vehicle overall... fix that crappy *** gm wiring mabee an interior that didnt make all kinds of noises driving around town???? or how about a better suspension to compeate with ford i mean that truck rides like a dream...... we can all agree on the fact that gm has the power department undercontroll compared to the other makes..... now lets focus on the problems that have existed since 99' witch i think is what gm is doing..

If you ask me, I think all the GM trucks and SUV's should have standard packages of no less that 380 to 400 hp. There no end to the power an LS motor can make. Why should we have to buy an SS or a Denali to have that amount of hp. Its easy for them to do. I know, I know, they are all conservative about the gas prices, but they can still make a hybid with 380hp. I'm just tried of the hemi heads thinking that just because they have that "Hemi" logo on the side of their fender, they think they can out run one of us. WRONG!! They think twice when they see an SS or Denali that rumbles. I don't have an SS and lit up a hemi the other day and looked at me funny, like what the hell do you have in that thing? It was awsome to the look on his face.

I think that GM could pacify a lot of people if they would go back to the 60's style of vehicle ordering. Wouldn't it be great if you could go into the dealer and order whatever you wanted on your GM vehicle? It would cost a little more, but you would expect that anyway. I agree that the majority of the people out there just want a SUV to throw the kids in, or use for vacation. The majority just want a truck to haul **** from Home Depot...and thats all fine. But the ones that are buying the SSS, SSR, TBSS, and such want to go fast, thats why we buy them. Wouldnt it be great if they gave us the ability to option them out with any Motor/trany combo we wanted (at an increased cost of course)? I dont expect them to be able to do that with everything obviously, I wouldnt expect them to do that with the 3/4 and 1 ton trucks or even the Denali's or tahoe's, just the "go-fast" vehicles that were designed with performance in mind in the first place. You would have to spend a little more, but you could get what you wanted. I dont think you could mass produce a vehicle that everyone agreed 100% on anyway. Some may want the 6l80, some may want the 4l80. Some may want the 6.2L, others may want the 5.3HO, or the 6.0L or even an 7.0L. It would be great to walk in to buy an SSS and have 3 or 4 engine or trany options available, at least i think it would be anyway. Plus it would add some mystique on the road. That lightening pulls up next to a SSS....but is it an SSS with a 5.3LHO or is it an SSS with a 7.0L? Of course it comes down to it being a cost issue for GM in the long run......it always does.
