The stock 4.8 5 speeds are tons of fun to drive. 285hp vs the 4.7 dodge with 235hp I don't think you will need any mods for it to outrun the dodge. A friend of mine has a stock 4.8 5 speed and knocks down 21mpg and he drives one hard! If you tune for 93 octane it is amazing at the difference. The 4.8 doesn't start coming in good until it is about time to shift is it's biggest downfall. Raising the rev limiter to 6200 from 5500 will net a huge gain itself. Tunning for 93 octane will allow you to get rid of a lot of the lower rpm tq loss problems. But in comparison to the 1 4.7 I have driven the 4.7 is a dog compared to the 4.8.

I was thinking the same thing...you shouldn't need any mods for a stock 4.8 to beat a stock 4.7 ... 50hp difference...

- The Chevy is lighter
- The Chevy has 50 more hp.
- The Dodge has 20" wheels (rotating mass is very effective at retarding acceleration)

The Chevy will kill it. If the Dodge is an automatic, it'll be even worse.

My buddies bone stock 4.8 5 speed 2005 model went a 10.15 in the 1/8th which is like a low 15 sec pass in the 1/4 I think. he barrowed my tires and got in the 9's if I remember correctly.

buy the Chevy and put a 4.10 and if it doesn't have it get a G80 for it or a Eaton while your there. It'll be a blast to drive.

If Dodge would make a 4. something HEMI V8, then there would be some competition and hard decisions to make. For now, the only decent V8 Dodge has for the trucks is the 5.7L HEMI. The V-10 truck is in a totally different class of its own. That one would be kind of like Dodge's Lightning truck.
GM doesn't have a production truck to compete with that one as of yet.
Go with the GM 4.8 RCSB truck. If you still want 20's, it will still be quicker than your current Dodge 4.7L.
Get the custom tune like stated above as well.
