Default 2004 ss are the worth it

Well I am looking into a new truck and got a price on a 2004 ss. they would take 33,000 for it brand new. Is it worth it or should I just go spend 20k on a regular cab v8. I just really like the look plus the awd and the 6.0 liter base engine. ANy info from anyone who has one would be appreciated.

I test drove a new SS last week, and it didn't feel any quicker than my 5.3L Ex-cab GMC. I really like the way they look though. I test drove three diesel trucks this past weekend, all about the same price range as the SS ($31K-34K) and I think I like the diesel trucks better. They just seem a little more useful and get better mpg.

SO, the SS is probably my third overall choice right now.

I agree with NB... sorta...

When I test drove my SS, I kinda thought, "Whats the big deal?"

I still bought it, because it had all the toys I wanted.

After some more seat time (and breakin miles?) it started to come alive. It's still not the fastest stock thing out there BY FAR, but it still puts some grins on my face.

There are a ton of different opinions on these trucks, but my reasoning for buying it was that it was the perfect starting point for what I wanted in a truck. A fun street/strip vehicle that can put down some respectable numbers(edit: after mods), handle all weather conditions (read, blizzards), and still tow/haul it's factory rating.

I like the AWD for dry and wet/frozen traction. My old 5.3 4x4 launched like a turd in 4-hi on the street. I never thought I'd really like the AWD, but I defintely do now.

I don't think I would have been happy with any other choice right now.

I think that's a good deal... that's about what mine worked out to be, after the dealer starting shoveling money at me for my old truck.
