2004 Silverado Tires
I stumbled across this site in a Hot Rod magazine at the gym. I don't know much about automotive, but I was hoping someone could answer a question. I want to know the biggest tires I can put on a stock 2004 Silverado Z71, i currently have 265/70/15 i believe. Also hints on a good type would be great. I was looking at the BF Goodrich All terrain T/A, I am mostly road driving, but some dirt and mud roads on a hunting lease. thanks.

You sould have a 16" wheel at minimum that came on your 2004 Z71.
A 285/ 75/ 16 will fit. You just have to trim your front plastic splashguard on both side just a bit. A simple box cutter gets the job done to fit them.
My bother runs the 285/75/16 BFG A/T's on his 2001 GMC Z71 Ext cab truck with the factory lift. No rubbing at all after the slight trimming with the box cutter.
I like the look of the new Yokohama Geolander A/T's.
There is also the new Goodyear Fortera A/T's you need to check out as well.
Just look at each one of these tire's treadwear number. The higher the treadwear # the longer it wil last, but you compromise dry traction with a high treadwear rating.
The BFG All Terrains have been of less quality lately. They have been coming back with out-of-round tires from customers causing a lot of vibrations on the highway. All we can do is just warranty them out, but even the ones we put back onto the customers vehicle seem to be bad too.
I would try either the Goodyear or Yokohama. I believe both of them come with a 50,000 or 60,000 mile warranty. The BFG only comes with a manufacture defect warranty.
Hope this helps.
