2004 Chevy Z71 (Cruise Control)
#1
My cruise control is no longer working. It literally went out over night (more like two days). I got my truck stuck one day at my house (really stuck), slinging mud everywhere. I had to let it sit for two days before I could drive it out. Now the cruise control wont work, the light on the display won't even come on when I turn it in the "on" position. I've read similar issues of people with consistent year model to mine. Where they get it stuck and then cruise control won't work. Does anyone know if there are any wires or sensors on the underside of my truck I can check? Thanks in advance.

So I had a front passenger side DRL out....replaced it. Checked my rear lights, and discovered my passenger side marker was out also....replaced it. Well, the cruise control is still not working. I guess I need to replace the switch mechanism (not sure what its technical term is).

I'm with the guys that said tail lights and brake switch. I experienced both issues on my '05 Avalanche. I installed LED tails in it and then never drove it on the highway for like 5-6 months, when I attempted to engage the cruise it didnt work. I had forgotten about the tail light issue even after trying to pull codes numerous times it showed nothing. I was like W-T-F !
Ultimately took it to the dealership, they charged me like $300 to tell me it was my LED tail lights, I installed a resistor and that problem went away.
About 6-7 months ago I started having intermitten issues with my tail lights again, this time it ended up being the switch on the brake pedal, this obviously meant the tail lights were intermittent as well. I suspected LED tail lights again but it was not the case.
The real baffling thing was that I ordered a new GM switch and installed it, it was bad from stock.. That will get your head scratching going rampid !! I pulled the trigger on another switch and replaced it again (adjustable pedals suck), and it's worked perfectly ever since.
If yours is getting to be intermittent consider replacing the switch, as you'll probably loose your tail lights as well.
The switch actually has 3 circuits running through it, one for brake lights, one for cruise and the last one is for ???? IDK.
