Default 2001 Sierra 4.3 fuel mileage

I started using my reg cab truck to commute about 100mi round trip back in July. I rebuilt the front end, ball joints, hubs, brakes etc. and after some fresh wheels/tires it drives like new again. The truck just recently hit 120K so it's not an old clapped out POS. Yet... lol.

When I started driving it I would average right around 18mpg every tank. I noticed it starting to lose one to two mpg so I put plugs/wires and fuel filter on it. The plugs looked like hell so I figured that was the problem. Kept driving, kept getting worse... now I'm around 14.8ish on the last tank. I plan on changing the O2 sensors this weekend and probably just gutting the cats. This truck sat and was driven very little for the 4 or so years prior to this summer. I'm concerned that the humidity around here may have gotten the cats. No biggie.

If the fresh sensors and eliminating the possibility of a partially plugged cat doesn't get my mileage back, where next? MAF looks to be ok, and clean. Air filter is in good shape too.

Baby jesus I hope not.... it would be a tough decision wether to put a marine intake on this thing or shove this 4.8 I have here staring at me in it. The truck isn't down on power at all. Still runs great. Just started drinking like a college frat boy lately lol

Marine intake would be great option! I am not sure how to do the injectors as far as the operating system goes. Been contemplating it on a friends S10 though.

Other Mod was, we cut the Baffle off the back side of the TB blade. It made it more responsive.

Crawled around on the truck today, the oil pan and intake manifold gaskets are leaking oil and coolant along with the fuel injector issues.

I'm strongly considering buying a cheap commuter car and prepping the truck for an engine... I have an 08 4.8 with less than 10K on it sitting here Begging to go in this truck...
