Default 2000 GMC power window broke...Need help..

My 2000 GMC power window took a crap today. I pulled the door panel off & I can see a frayed end of a cable hanging there. The window will go down if I push it and will go up under it's own power but it groans. I need a new cable I'm guessing. What's the procedure and where can I get this part? Dealer only? Does the whole regulator need to come out to fix it?

Thanks for any help or advise you can give.

the same thing just happened to me. i believe you have to replace the whole assembly. remove the door panel. peel back the weather stripping. loosen the two bolts holding the window to the regulator. my window was almost down all the way and i was able to do it. i then pushed my window all the way to the top. then theres a few bolts holding the regulator to the door. it comes out through the big hole in the bottom. it was pretty easy. i need to order up a new one so i dont know if the install will be as easy.

i should check to see if a sponsor has them in stock but i found them on these sites
Window regulator
Window regulator 2

ive heard mixed reviews about them. people say its better to order through GM directly but its twice the price.

this seems to be a problem almost everyone has. i belive you have to change the whole assembly as well. ask CHEVRACER83. for the part number he knows for sure. he will just need your vin. when he gives you the part number look it up in this site http://www.gmpartsdirect.com there prices arnt too bad.
