Default 1999 OBS CCSB help

Dad has a old body style 1999 crew cab short bed. It's at the body shop right now getting some damage fixed, left by the previous owner. The bed is off and we think it would be a great time to fix the fuel pump. The whine is horrible and is louder than most of the 1998 and 1999 chevys with the Vortec 350. Can we pull the pump out and replace the pump only with something like a walbro 340?

Chevy wants about 350 for the whole fuel pump assembly and that sounds a little ridiculous to me.

So, it's kinda serviceable, like the F-body guys do with dual and single in-tank setups?
