1997 chevy
I have a 97 chevy long bed with the 5.7 vortech 350. The truck is a 2500 so it has the 4l80e in it with the 14 bolt rear main. I run 285 tall tires on it. My goal for the truck is 14's Maybe even 13's depending on what kinda funds it takes to get to 14's The truck weights in at 6000 pounds with me in it. Tool box's, 36 gallon fuel tank, bigger tires and rims, Can some one tell me what i will need to make this thing run what i want it two and how much ruffly will i need to spend. Also will i need to build my 4l80e. Keep in mind every now in then i tow pretty heavy and this truck has to stay reliable. I understand u have to pay to play. I dont mind finding weak links. I just dont wanna replace them links 100 times. also the truck has 2 inch exhaust with no mufflers. Would it be better for me to take the kitty's off along with the mufflers and run straight 3 inch. If i do that will there be enough back pressure.
Thanks guys
Ps Sorry about all the newbie questions. Im more of a diesel retard and wanna start learning about gasser's Now that i got one as my Daily Driver.

A 383 will definitely help, check out the GM Performance Parts Catalog and/or website. You'll want the usual bolt ons such as cold air intake, long tube headers, custom or cat-back exhaust (I'm not familiar with who makes those products for the pre-GenIII stuff), as well as some custom tuning. Check our sponsors first for the custom tuning (BlackBear, Wheatley, Nelson), and if none of them offer pre-LS style tunes, PM me and I can provide you with some info on who does. Not sure if all of this will get you 14's or not, but it will definitely get you closer

Ok after checking on parts and talking to a few folks i think i finally decided to with with the 383 stroker kit. Goal is about 400 - 450 hp can this truck still be reliable at these power levels?

The truck should be plenty reliable with that set up, the 80E is a stout trans, even in stock form. I'd put a shift kit in the trans, a Detroit TruTrac in the rear, have some computer tuning done and call it a day I'd think that the computer tuning would be the hardest part.
