It's got stock 373's still, but I was running a 28x10x16 slick, so that shoulda helped my 60' time a little bit. I'm going to call circle d tomorrow and see what they can do for a converter for me.

you can't go with a bigger cam without a converter, it would probably only get worse, more time spent in the "low power zone" Get that converter you mentioned and you will be scootin! And like was mentioned it would be worth at least running it on the dyno to see if your a/f is right etc...

Unfortunately, the Hot Cam is basically an LT1 cam that was adopted to work in an LS1. The specs look decent on paper, but the lobe technology is old school. You could call them "lazy" lobes. Don't get me wrong, for the price, it's an easy 25 hp, and your valve springs will love you until the end of time.

black smoke doesnt sound good. i'd look over the tune and check the plugs/wires
