05 Z71 6.0 Engine swap
#1
Long time reader my first post.
Ok here is my scenario. I have a 2005 Chevy Silverado 1500 EXT Cab Z71 with 215,000 miles. The old girl smokes and leaks oil to the tune of about 2.5 quarts every 3,000 miles. Time for an update!
Truck is essentially stock, it does have the L33 5.3 with 3.42 gears. Truck has been leveled and I'm running 18" ION wheels with MasterCraft AXT 285/65R18 10 ply tires.
I can purchase a 6.0 LQ4 out of a 2006 Silverado 2500. Engine with 121k on it. $800 complete I think that's a good deal. So this block crank and rods could be the base of my new power plant for my truck. If I don't decide to just have TSP build me a complete long block. Still waiting on a price and recommendations from them. If I go with the used engine I will tear it down and take it to the machine shop to have it cleaned and gone through, with any machine work needed done.
I'm looking for 400+ Hp and around 450+ torque out of this thing, at the flywheel. It's still my daily driver and I do pull a 4,000lb trailer with it on the weekends. So I want some reliable vroom and keep some low end grunt for pulling my toys.
Here is a list of parts I'm looking at:
Pacesetter Long Tube headers
Not Sure about exhaust help here prefer to stay quite unless I really get on it.
Cold air intake "not sure which brand or design I should go with"
Stock LQ9 pistons
TSP 5.3l stage 2.5 heads "should bump the compression up a little"
TSP 222/226 114 LSA Camshaft
Stock Intake, throttle body, and injectors
93 Octane tune
Yank Truck Thruster 2600 Torque Converter
Oh and I will be having my tranny rebuilt before the power plant goes in along with rebuilding my rear end with 4.10's
Can my goals be reached? What do you think of this setup what would you change and why?

Look into speed engineering's long tubes.... As far as the exhaust there are a few systems that are designed to sounds relatively stock unless you get on em, i personally like the sound of flowmaster's 40s and 44s, so.... Cant remember which one, but i know cherry bomb has a muffler that at idle is not much louder than stock, but when you get into it it has a definite growl to it... Thinking about one of those on my yukon, when i get that far!!! Unless of course flowmaster has somethinv similar!!!

I had flowmaster super 44s with longtubes on my 5.3 and they were quiet until over 3k rpms.. I now have a VMax LQ9 6.0 with longtubes with a single 18" magnaflow dual in dual out and same results, quiet under 3k rpms, not quiet after 3k... I always hear magnaflow is a lot better for performance than flowmaster.. as for that cam, I think its a little too big for your goals.. you said you wanted to keep low end grunt for pulling.. I'd look to stay around the 216/220 range especially running oversized tires.. even with that 2600 stall and 4.10s, 222/226 is too high... and Volant for the CAI that's what I have and I love it

I have super 44s and they are kinda loud at idle, and just growl when i get on it.... Im having same issue with my cam in my truck, have no umphh down low but once i get up around 2800-3000 she wakes up, especially at higher speeds..... Im looking into a new cam and would realky like to add another 50-75 horses and possibly another 75-80 ftlbs at wheels... But keep it peaking kinda low, right now with the cam ive got im peaking at 5300rpm on hp and torque... But i havent put my headers on yet, which should help with torque some as well as hp and hopefully give me a bit of a spread between the two.... As far as between magnaflow and flowmaster... Its kind of a toss up, seems it depends on which article you read!! I am running a k&n and love it..... As far as air intake look into the airbox mod and tube, either way its pullin more air in, my air filter sounds like a vacuum leak, with the 92mm tb im running!!
