Default 05 stepside 4.8 what to look for?

Hey whats up? I'm going to look at an 05 2wd stepside with a 4.8 in it, the truck has 151,000 and the seller is asking $5000. It looks real clean from the pictures but what doesn't? Anyways I'm new to trucks my last few vehicles have all been Volkswagen's so what should I look out for? is 151k too high?

Thanks
-Matt

Don't matter, toss that 4.8 and drop a 6.0, 6.2, or something a lil bigger. $5k I'd buy it even with 200k on it.

as far as drivetrain goes the only real concern would be the transmission, they tend to not like abuse. they're pretty cheap and easy to replace/rebuild though for a newer rig. the motors tend to run a long time and are pretty hard to kill if maintained properly at stock to mild power levels. the regular wear parts are also pretty cheap and easy to replace so all in all, if it's clean and doesn't seem to have electric gremlins and doesn't appear to have had a teenager negligently flogging the go pedal i'd get it.

I don't have money to be swapping motors right off the bat, but if the transmission is weak what would I be looking at spending to get a replacement?

Thanks

i don't know what the used parts market is like where you live but up here they're usually around a grand from a scrap yard, cheaper if you find a private party deal. i don't know what a rebuild would run you.
