I think that is certainly the case most of the time, but there's got to be old school/new school tricks that will make these "efficient" LS based V8s run more efficiently -ie. when the wife is driving it!!!

realisitcally Americans need to change their views on oil consumption and quit driving big *** SUVs for dialy drivers when they dont need too, which is about 98% of the time. By buying either a new fuel efficient car or fixing up and old Civic or something you can save a ton of money in the long run and reduce wear and tear on your fun vehicle. Sounds preachy I know but this is what I study and its pretty sickening to see how us Americans treat these issues. Just like when they turn a blind eye to the attrocities of our current government administration. LOL

For the money spent on mods I dont see you gaining much except with the tuning. The best thing you can do is the basic BS liek making sure tires are properly inflated and proper for the type of driving you do (IE not running Mud swampers on the street), keep excess weight out ofthe truck, and learn how to drive efficiently and slower. All of these things will likely make a bigger difference than something like headers and an intake. At least it did for my Vette when I was testing gas milage in it and my Prius.

That all nice and good, but I'm not putting my 1 and 2 year old in a Prius. I'll take the good ole' republican stance and say as long as I can afford fuel and it is available, my wife and children will be in the biggest darn SUV that will fit in my garage. I'd give up a lot of things before I compromise on that one.

Having said that...I just like to hear what folks have done to make these vehicles more efficient, and try to be a good steward of God's money and not burn even more fuel than I have to. Just my .02.

I agree and concur that all this marketing garbage for lil' gadgets here and there is just nuts. The truth is that I'll probably stick w/ my bone stock yukon XL w/ a K&N filter and be happy. I drive a small SUV as my daily driver, and my wife stays at home w/ the big SUV only filling it up every 3rd week. Despite this...I was just curious as to making it more efficient.

Now...if someone see's me driving the stroker motor 'bird as a daily driver, I hope someone slaps the stew out of me!!!

I don't know how it is that headers are going to help your fuel economy? Anytime you modify your stock config it's to push more air and fuel through your motor. Increasing your HP by 15 (which a KN won't) isn't going to enable you to stay off the throttle any more than you would without it.
Just keep it under 75, drive around in 4th everywhere, buy the cheap 87 octane and don't ever punch it.
wish i could run 87 just kidding... I personally do ok with headders and k&n drop in and not running high Rpm everywhere i go... I modifiend my intake tube for a smoother flow of air but didn't see a ton of gain... My tune helped out some but 4x4 yuk's just are hard to get mileage out of...

I can understand your thoughts on the protection issue. Its a bit selfish when you consider the implications to others health but totally understandable. This is exactly why I bought my Prius, to help push the market towards efficient vehicles and with different fuel options. Its great to see flex fuel vehicles if we can get our lame duck government to impliment regulations on the farming of bio-fuel crops. Lots of good can coem from it if we do it right and then we wouldnt be so bad off with the bigger, less efficient vehicles. If everyone bought those dumbass Dodges with 12mpg average we would be in a world of trouble lol

As for the T/A. Hell that thing probably gets better milage than the Yukon hahaha. My T/A with a 4400 stall, 3.73s, heads/cam etc got 20mpg

...and yesterday I get hooked like crack on Fram's infomercial about the FRAMBoost Air intake that gives you 10% better fuel economy guaranteed and has no oily filter to maintain. Hmmmmm, I'll just wait to hear what other people say about it.

I'm lucky My job is just a block a way from me. So I can afford to have a gas guzzler. But like others have said I didn't buy a 2500HD CCSB 4x4 to save the enviornment and get great mpg . I bought it because I have a ranch, I hunt, I have a 5,000lb tractor and because I like big *** trucks . But like the original poster said, if I can do some little mods to help MPG then I'd do them.

I've just given up caring that it costs me $75 to fill my gas tank....I've got to spend money somewhere and it might as well be somewhere I'm happy (in the drivers seat)

That is what i did. I bought a 1984 nissan sentra. It is ugly as hell, but it get 30mpg. Great for going to and from work. The great thing was I got it for $400.00. It runs like a champ, until you get to about 70mph. Wont go much faster than that.
