wtb: tail gate cables
#2
Hey man I learned the hard way too. When I load the lawnmower now I take off the tailgate and put the ramps on the bumper. Man those cables are crap. I can tell mine are about to break because they bulge out in some spots. I hope you didn't dent the tailgate.

fortunatly the tailgate ended up scratch and dent free. my wife about had a heart attack when the tailgate cables broke tho. she was the one loading it up. my cables were in great looking shape but now that i can see the inside they were all rusted and rotted. lesson learned. will do as you did for now on. tailgate off.

The cables are actually defective and will be replaced by better ones for free. Just bring in the old ones to the dealer and they will give you new ones free of charge. Both of my friends broke, and one of mine did... they were replaced free of charge no questions asked. Just tell them you were loading a lawnmower or something, I dont know what the max weight is supposed to be on the tailgate. Good luck!

well, went down to the dealership here in town and i got a line of crap from them. they said only certain trucks have defective tailgate tables. hmmm, could they look like mine?? anyway, they told me i would have to take it up with GM since they didn't have a service bulletin as to what trucks were on recall.
