I am trying to troubleshoot a rattling problem in my dash that occured after I had my steering shaft replaced with the latest "clunk'proof" one. Truck doesn't clunk anymore but now rattles when I hit a bump. If someone has one they'd like to donate, I will gladly pay for shipping both ways just to test your used shaft. My truck is a RCSB '04 1/2T 2wd truck if that makes a difference. I would like to make sure we have the same shaft. I may just end up getting a Borgeson unit yet if your shaft cures my rattle.
Thanks in advance,
Joe

It makes this rattle on a rough road between 15-20 MPH, it's definatly in the steering column area. It sounds like a single BB rattling in a plastic cup. It does not rattle going side to side or under hard steering. Only when the suspension or chassis gets jarred. It's not a normal "interior rattle". I am tall so I have long arms, I reach down when this is happening and cannot feel a vibration on the intermediate steering shaft. This "rattle" also occurs when I back up promptly (borderline tire spin) or does it when I accelerate quickly forward for the first two gears. It's like a BB rolling back and forth sound from front to back only. What is this white plastic piece you speak of? If I can buy it I will put it in myself. My warranty expires TODAY. If you can get back to me ASAP, I can mention it to my service advisor and make GM eat the bill on this one.
Thanks a million,
Joe

mine makes a rattle like that but it turned out to be the glove box handle.......dont know if its the same rattle but mine sounds like a bb also.....just push your hand against the handle and see if it goes away.
