is the 5.3L Z71 4wd any faster than the 2wd 5.3, or is it slower???

The motors are identical. A 4WD truck has slightly more drivetrain loss due to the transfer case, and is a heavier truck, so a 4WD will be slower than a 2WD if the bodies are the same.

It also depends on the gear. A lot of 4x4's have 4:10 gears, so a 4x4 witha 4:10 may be a toss up to the same body 2wd with a 3:42.

I believe the highest gear you can get in a 4X4 is the 3.73. It is the standard gear and the 4.10 is optional. Maybe this is suppose to make up for the drag of the 4X4 drivetrain compared to a 2wd with 3.42.
