Default WS-6 cam?

My buddy just rebuilt a 2000 LS-1 from a WS-6 T/A. He offered me the factory cam for $50. I don't have a clue what specs this cam is (or my factory cam for that matter.) Anyone have any numbers? suggestions? Would it even be worth the trouble of the swap to go with the WS-6 cam?

To my knowledge, the WS-6 cam is a standard 5.7 LS1 cam. The WS-6 is a trim pacjage with "Functional ram air" the hood with the big nostrils on it. I would not change it. The LS6 cam is a little more radical than the ls1 and the guys that have done that mod are more or less "ho hum" about it. Come to think of it the ls1 cam is very similar if not the same as the 5.3 cam. I just don't remember the specs off the top of my head. I'll see if I can find them.

This is what I dug up:

LS1, C5, 6.0
2001-02 198/208 .500/.500 115.5lsa 19.7mm base

LS6
2001- 204/211 .525/.525 116lsa 19.3mm base
2002- 204/218 .551/.547 117.5 lsa 19.0mm base

5.3
1999- 193/194 .466/.457 115.5 lsa 19.7mm base
2000- 193/194 .466/.457 114 lsa 19.7mm base
( those 5.3 numbers may not be that accurate. I thought the 5.3 got the 6.0 cam in 2000, but those numbers don't show that, because the 6.0 cam has not changed as far as I know, but those #'s show that it would have to if the 5.3 #'s are right.)

So this may add more confusion to your question, but maybe we can get the info straight in this thread.

Thanks Greg! I have a 4.8 also, if that make a difference. Aren't the cams the same in the 4.8's and 5.3's? I just thought that it may be worth the $$, but for that little bit of difference, probably not.

I'm gathering info on stock specs for cam across the board. All years and engines. Give me a little time on it and then it may help you make a better decision.

The '98 advertised 198/208 duration and .500"/.500" lift, but I remember it being on a 117 LSA??? You might e-mail Thunder Racing since they have a cam doctor. I know that they put an '01 truck cam on the cam doctor (same cam for '01+ LS1's), and it speced out to 192/190, .455"/.465", 115 LSA. That cam is TINY! It's even smaller than the 198/197, .478"/.478" specs that I was told.

This is where I got it.

I know not the most reliable source, but I am working on puting together a stock cam page. What I need is concrete numbers.

A cam doctor is about as concrete as you'll get. If you're wanting the advertised specs, you might e-mail Joseph at jpotak@hotmail.com He might be able to dig up the specs since he works for Scoggin Dickey.

The 2000+ 4.8,5.3,6.0 all have the same cam (same partnumber). The ls1's cams are the same for 2000 and 2001 except for the ls6. I dug up this info at my brother-in-law's shop on their computer there (ALLDATA). I can post all the years and part #s, but no specs on the cams. I just have to find that piece of paper I wrote it on.

Below is a copy of a thread posted and concluded by information gathered from Me, Neil and Full Floater.. There are some part numbers and specs listed below..This may help some..

quote:
The #12561721 cam was introduced in the '01 model year and is used in:

1) All '01-'02 LQ4 and LQ9 (Escalade) 6.0L engines.
2) All '01-'02 LS1 engines in Corvette (Y car).

Iron head '99-'00 LQ4 used a different camshaft, #12560967. I have conflicting information regarding F body applications. The '98-'00 LS1 F cars use a #12560965, while '01-'02 use either the #12560967 or the '1721 (pretty sure it has the '0967). The LR4 (4.8L) and LM7 (5.3) share the same cams, and all I know at this time is the '00 models use the #12560967. It's kind of confusing keeping up with all of the GEN III V8 cams out there (I show 5 different LS1 cams alone).

To recap the '01-'02 LS1/LQ4/LQ9 (#12561721) specs: 196/208 (deg. dur. @ .050" lift), .468"/.480" (lift @ valve) on 116 LDA.

I know that my 6.0 litre has the 12561721. I have this part number stamped on it.. #1721 , last four digits of the number above. I also have miced the lift and it matches the above lift.Give or take a few thou..
