Wrecked '05 Silverado Starting Issue
#1
I wasn't sure exactly where to ask this but this seemed to be the most obvious place.
Anyway, I am looking at purchasing the motor/tranny/pcm/harness etc. out of a wrecked '05 Silverado. The truck has 67k on it. I wanted to see if it would run prior to purchasing the setup. I put a hot battery in the truck and the fuel pump started pumping. I turned the key to start and the motor spun over 3-4 times and stopped turning. I turned the key off and then turned it back to the start position. It would attempt to turn(grunt) but that is all. Even with the key off/out of the ignition I could still hear the fuel pump running.
My assumption is that the the cylinders were full of fuel causing the motor not to rotate. What would cause the pump to constantly run like this? This truck was rolled when it was in the accident and has been sitting for several months. I thought that the fuel pump might not even come on since the truck has been wrecked. I know some vehicles have a fuel pump cutoff but that is not the case with this one.
I plan on pulling the plugs and see if the cylinders are full of fuel and then going from there.
My plans are to swap this setup into a '64 Chevy truck. I would like to determine the cause of the fuel pump issue and possibly hear the motor run before I lay down hard cash for this stuff.
Also, is there anything else that I need to check/look for before I buy this stuff? Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. I have never done a late model swap and am excited about getting started. I drive an '01 Z28 everyday and I think the LS swap will make my '64 a fun daily driver.
Thanks,
Tim

I *think* that the truck ended up on its roof. The guy that picked it up at the accident site said he had to roll it so he could get it loaded onto his rollback. He said it was in a ditch at the edge of the woods so I am not sure if it was upside down and he had to flip it over or if it eas upright and for him to get it to where he could hook up he had to roll it 360*. Either way the truck rolled 3-4 times and the driver was thrown out(and actually survived). I'm not sure how long it may have actually ran after the wreck. Also, the truck has been sitting for almost a year now.
When I was trying to start it, the pump ran for, guesstimating, 2 minutes before I tried to crank it. Once the motor stopped rotating, that is when I actually realized that the pump was still running so I went a disconnected the battery as quickly as I could.
That's really all that I know about it at the moment.
Thanks for the responses guys!!
