Default Is it worth it to part a 8.1L complete Engine???

I bought this motor for a build and bailed on the project to go in a new direction. I was trying to get the $1000 I invested back out but I cant seem to get any real buyers. If I were to part the heads, short block, intake, and fuel system is there any worth to them?

I wonder what the difference between my mercury 496 mag ho in my boat is and your truck 8.1 as far as internals go. It's the same motor as far as I know. And I know to replace my engine is like $15,000-$20,000. You might market the boat community (power boats) and sell for more!

If I had to replace a bottom end - that's exactly what I would do.

There's another site as well, but I can't remember what it is... i'll come back and post if I can.

The 01-02 496 marine engines got a forged steel crank, but after 2002 they all got a kinifedged, rolled and undercut cast nodular crank. The 375hp and 420 hp 8.1's use the same longblock/intake as the trucks, just different cams. The 525hp HP3 8.1 used ported 8.1 heads, roller rockers, extrude honed truck intake, Crane cam, special springs.

The cast hyper 8.1 pistons are good to about 560hp.
