i am runnin a 224/244 581/581 comp cam in my 4.8. It idle perfect and i have no problem with cold starts. i never ran it n/a with the cam but i can tell you that it help make a world of difference in my truck. There are many things that you can do with a 4.8l. Look at all your options b4 you jump on the "6.0 swap band-wagon"

heres a sound clip of the t-rex cam.
lol. i'd love to see a truck idle like that.
T-REX

sure would be fun to go buy a 150 shot of nos, high stall, t-rex cam, bolt ons and drag radials. then see what your 4.8 would run. you'd have no tranny, but hey, it would be fun while it lasted

t-rex cam probably wont work on a truck with our little chambers....it's a sick *** cam though...it's gonna rock on a 112 LSA in my 414

i just listened to that trex sound clip...that's not really that bad of an idle....my truck with the cam in my sig idled about like that...not as loud (unless cutouts are open) but it sounds good. i thought the idle would be much worse....ofcourse that car probably has extensive tuning, where as mine was on stock tuning.

I'd love to have my truck sounding like that, but then reality sets in and i know i can't drive something with a cam like that in it for a daily driver. I don't know much about cams or cam specs but all this is real helpful. Since i live here in Memphis i guess i'll go up to Comp Cams and have a talk with those guys. At least now i've got some numbers to take with me.

That sounds like the kinda cam i was looking for. I may get a T-Rex to try out, but im not sure if a 3500 stall is enough for that size cam. What kind of lope does that cam have?

My cam has a nasty lope to it for a truck. Hell at a stoplight I idle at 800 in gear and the truck actually shakes like an old school muscle car. You can actually watch the hood dip to one side and back up. It is sick as hell.

With some tuning there are zero drivability issues. mine starts perfectly every time, no surging, no dying, nothing.

Snake eater- the lobe separation is 114.0. This coming weekend i am gona try to get a sound clip of it at idle. It idles at about 1000rpms and sounds pretty bad ***.

doesnt the lower LSA cams have more lope? Or is it the lift? I want a nasty lope, kinda like what you say yours sounds like.
