I was behind a new 2500 HD tonight and was looking at a nice looking truck when noticed the tailpipe, it's a nice mandrel bent 3.5" pipe. I know the 6.0L has a dual inlet muffler, what size inlet pipes does it have? If the muffler flows well enough for a 6.0L engine, it should be fine for a modded 5.3L shouldn't it? It would flow well and be quiet. I know I would have to cut the 'Y' pipe and run two pipes into the muffler, then keep the stock 3.5" tailpipe. What ya think? A quiet, high flowing system for us sensitive eared older farts.

why not just cut the stock muffler out of your current setup and put in a flowmaster, or borla or whatever you want and keep the entire stock exhaust minus the muffler. that's what i'm doing with my mom's new yukon. she doesn't want it loud so i'm just gonna cut out the stock muff and put in a dynomax bullet, and leave the stock tail pipe in place.

She doesn't want loud and you're going to put a Dynomax Bullet muffler in? It's going to be loud anyways, it's a small, high flowing racing muffler. If you don't want it loud, put a large Magnaflow in.

i have the bullets on mine with no cats, long tubes and dumped and it's not that loud, with cats, stock manifolds and ran out the back on a yukon it shouldn't be loud.

Slowverado if you run that exhaust on your mom's Yukon she will dissown you.In a Yukon the big passenger compartment will act like a resonance chamber,an exhaust that loud would be unbearable.I run a 70 series Flowmaster on my Tahoe,it's about as loud as you can stand in that type of truck.

The piping is 3" duals to that muffler. I'd assume it flows pretty well but read this and it will hopefully shed some light... http://www.magnaflow.com/05news/magazine/05sporttr.htm
I have the 3" leadpipes in my attic from a 1500HD/2500HD truck and they will bolt right up to the stock manifolds of my 5.3 which is great so now I can toss those 3" lead pipes on, drop the cats until I need to get reinspected, run a 12569 Magnaflow, and eventually get a set of TOG headers.
That exhaust will happen after EDIT, which should be very soon if all goes to plan.

17.5 hp from a catback swap huh, hard to believe.
here's a question, if you look at my sig, you can see my mods, what would be a good size exhaust for me, single or dual muffler setup? of course if would be a muffler shop custom one, i dont want to spend big bucks on a pre fab one, or how about just a cutout after y pipe..
