I checked the starter numbers and they are differant. I,m using 5.3 flywheel from 02 tahoe. both engines have the same compresson.

Starter Compatibility
I reused my 4.8 starter in my 6.0 conversion with no problems so far, even with the 6.0l having a calculated c/r of 10.7. I did fabricate a heat shield since I'm using headers and I didn't want to take any chances with the starter.
The only issue you may encounter is that the earlier 6.0l HD engines had a different crank flange depth. As long as you have the same measurement from the seal lip to the flange surface, you will be o.k.
This shouldn't be an issue with the 03 6.0l.

I noticed your sig and your engine mods are what I'm wondering about. I tow alot and I was going to put a ls6 cam and mill my 317 heads (still need chart for CR) and push rods. I already have Corsa cat back and nelson said they will tune it, should I use taht cam for towing? Hows gas mileage on 4x4 2002 tahoe or should I stay with stock LQ4 and a nelson tune. Thanks

My LS6 (308) cam is installed with a 4 degree advance and the truck seems to have decent bottom end but I believe the increase in CR (around 10.8 via .035 mill & .041 gaskets) somewhat limits the towing capacity with my current tune (I didn't specify heavy towing in my tune specs to Allen). I haven't tried my enclosed trailer (1800 lbs dry) but I can pull my small (two rail) trailer with two dirt bikes without too much protest in this heat.
The base circle on the LS6 cam is .050 smaller than the stock cam and also the LS6 engines use longer valves, so your pushrod length will have to compensate for these differences as well as the difference you may encounter from your head mill. But if you're lucky with the combination (check your rocker tip wipe on the valve stem and lifter plunger preload), you may be able to run the stock length pushrods. I have very little valve train noise with my combination (it's about the same level as a stock LS6).
As far as gas mileage, this summer (hot), I have gotten 18.87 average on a 240 mile trip (mostly on the interstate, cruising at 2000 rpm with the A/C on). My local mileage runs 16.7 to 17.5 as long as I don't run it through the gears too much.
