will the newer style thermostat and housing work on a 99 water pump

the seal is recessed in the thermostat housing on 99-03 and 04-up seal goes around thermostat.only difference in the pumps is hole size.housings is whats different

Ahhh ok. My only real reason for wanting to go with the 04+ style is they always seem to warm up quicker, especially the 07+ trucks and that may just be all in the tuning. Maybe they get some massive spark retard during warm up. I guess a closed thermostat is a closed thermostat but if I've got to chose I would prefer to get the 04+ style. Looks like thats what I will be doing.
