I figured you asked because you wanted some good advice. Running around on damaged cats no matter what they are made of is asking for disaster. "THE OTHER CRAP" will clog and cause you issues as well. Advising someone to just wait for it to blow out the tail pipe is an E-Ticket to new motor highway. Take my advice however you want, I have seen many clogged cats cost more than just poor performance. It wont just blow out of your tailpipe.

 

If i had aftermarket cats and could easily look at them I would, but these I cant see. I'm still under warranty so I dont want to go cutting on the y-pipe to see.

Maybe I should just gut them to be safe? I am worried about that though because when I gutted my silvy's cats it got ALOT louder. When I gutted the cat on my Blazer I couldnt tell the difference.

I dont want real loud or alot of drone on the highway.

 

not that I am suggesting it, but yes that would be the best way to do it. If you are going to run that truck that fat, you are asking for issues with the cats.

 

i am with blownchevy, if its melted its a ticking timebomb. unbolt the exhaust and knock it out or have it replaced.

Other than the death rattle how can you tell if a cat has gone south if you have no rear O2's?

 

I know you get a BAD rotten egg smell when they get reall hot. I guess when you stop getting that smell maybe.

 

After the truck is good and warmed up, put your eyeballs in the exhaust for a moment! If it burns then you might have a problem. Compare it to another unmodied properly running car.

Uhh. don't have an audience for this, getting your friends to believe that you're NOT actually trying to get a head-rush is challenging.

since your still under warranty why not tune your truck back to stock and remove any other warranty voiding parts and take it to the stealership to have your cats replaced. even on stock rigs cats can crap out early, stranger things have happend
