Default Wideband Monitor GP

A wideband group purchase has been coordinated with a new "inexpensive"
option in the wideband group, Innovate Technologies. Their LM-1 lambda
meter is all digital and works with the inexpensive Bosch LSU 4.2 O2
sensor. It is a VW sensor that currently goes for as little as $28

This VW O2 sensor concerns me. I currently work for a VW dealership and that O2 sensor is the one for the AEG 2.0L engines. This O2 has been notorious for "burning" out. They were recently part of a recall(WA recall). How long have they been used in LS1 type engines?

They can't be used as a direct replacement since their voltasge output is 0-5 and our stock O2 has a voltage of 0-1. The LM-1 can be configured to send a 0-1V signal to our PCM but it is not recommended to leave on the car when you are not tuning.

So the short answer would be they aren't used on LS1 type engines, the wideband uses them on whatever vehicle the user wants to tune. I have seen them on the imports as well as big block sprint cars. It's used wherever you want to get an AFR reading.

Questions about the product would be best served to look at their Web site or use the contact information for Innnovate Technologies

Yeah, they shouldn't burn out if you only use them for tuning. Then once you are done remove the O2 sensor and install the plug that comes with the kit.

acording to the website,,, the kit comes with the sensor already. it just says that is compatible with the vw sensor, not that you have to buy it.
this is off the website=
• "The standard LM-1 includes a Bosch wide-band oxygen sensor and cable, cigarette-lighter adapter, serial cable for PC connection, 9V battery, exhaust bung and plug, CD and manual. The LM-1 ships with a Bosch sensor, however, it can also function with other wide-band sensors, including Honda/NTK and VW sensors."
