Default Why is my pickup so SLOW?

It is a 3/4 ton so I know it will never be a hot rod and that isn't what I bought it for but I was expecting a little more get up and go.. It is an 04 GMC sierra, 2500, 4x4, 6.0, with headers, electric fans, and hypertech tuner. My accelerometer puts 1/4 mile at 17.38 @ 81.0. Makes me mis driving my 98 vortec 1/2 ton (16.45 @ 83.1).

I know. That is what I bought it for. But it isn't so good at that eigher. Has trouble doing 65 mph with my 5th wheel camper sometimes. The D-max I drive for work spoils me I guess. Would like to stroke the 6.0 or swap to an 8.1 some day.

Hypertech speed it up .22. I was wondering if the headers are hurting the lower rpm making it not pull so well.

Hypertech power is based off stock vehicles so idk! I'd get a custom tune by one of our sponsor & sell the hyper on craiglist! Btw is your truck a regular cab & do you have LT's or shorties?

You need a custom tune.

Custom tune definitely...what gears are you running? If you want more of a hot rod get it tuned, a mild converter, and maybe cam that is matched to the gears and torque converter...

It is a crew cab, big and heavy so I'm sure it is doing decent for what it is. I bought the hypertech used for $100 to correct for tire size. Biggest thing holding me back from a custom tune it a lot of the percieved power gains are from removing the torque management. I use this pickup to pull and don't want to do that. I an kinda curious though as to what all a custom tuner can do to increase actual HP at the crank. I would guess only change timing and maybe fuel pressure a little? If so I'm not so sure I would gain that much over the hypertec tune. Accelerometer says the hypertec increased my hp by 23.

P.S.
Swerve7RMP. Like your pickup! Hope to get my '92 looking that good some day soon...

BBC, I have pretty much the same truck as you. They are what they are man.....heavy *** trucks. My mods are about like yours too but a tiny bit more....Pacesetter LT's and Im using their ORY for the 5.3/4.8 motor. So I ended up ditching the OEM quad-catted dual exh and went to a single non-catted 3". I firmly believe that this setup flows better than what was on there before. I also threw on efans from a VMAX and had Blackbear tune it up last year. Just this last month I was wanting a bit more so I swapped in Comps 265 low lift (212/218-.522/.529) and some LS6 springs. Though the tune needs to be updated its running damn strong.

Like mentioned earlier, what gears and tire size are you running? Some HD's came with 3.73s and some with 4.10s. If you have 3.73s and bigger tires that is probably whats killing your power. I have 4.10s and run 265/75/16s. That plus the smaller diameter exh, and the low lift cam, makes my truck pull really hard off the bottom. That cam hits really hard around 3000rpms too, right where we need it for towing.

I also wouldnt mess with a convertor because a 26-2800 stall is about as high as you can go and still retain all your trucks towing capabilities. And that small of a convertor probably isnt going to make much of a difference.

I would also venture to say that our 4L80 and and 14 bolt rearend eats up about 40-50 RWHP, so we have that working against us too.
