I had the same problem with mine over the summer. turned out to be the cat converter. the one on the drivers side was broken up on the inside. listen for a knocking noise, like a rock rattling around in the exhaust. we thought it was the fuel pump, changed the filter, checked the fuel pressure and it turned out to be the cats.

My friend has an SS that would die at idle that turned out to be some gunk built up on the throttle blades. No idea how it got there.

Easy way to tell if it's the pump is to try to "prime" it. Turn the key on and let it sit for a couple seconds, you'll normally hear the pump kick on. Turn key off, then do it again. Do that like two or three times, then try to start it. If it starts right up it's the pump. Also, once it's started, if you turn it off, will it do the same thing? or start right up? Usually it's the check valve in the pump, it'll start back up once it's running but once it sits it lets the pressure bleed off.
