Question Who has changed just the muffler?

I am starting to do some research on catback systems and was thinking of buying the Magnaflow and I'm shocked on the price for the little bit of materials that you get. Prices range anywhere from $450-550.00 Part # 15782

- 1 Muffler
- 2 Inlet Pipe Extentions
- 1 Tail Pipe
- 3 Clamps

Who has changed just the muffler? Can I just buy a universal Magnaflow muffler and still get the same performance and sound?

i got a 3" magnaflow muffler, and if you get your local muffler shop to bend you a 3" tailpipe and 3" from the muffler to the y-pipe it's only like 180 bucks total.

A few of the SSS guys have done that. If I recall MWalls is still running the stock cat back with a muffler upgrade on his 6.7L SSS.

I have cut out the stock muff and added a MagnaFlow. This is the one I used. http://www.magnaflow.com/02product/s...ne=main&id=644 Got it for around $100 online and local shop cut old one out and welded this in for $20 bill.

Quiet at idle, rumbles a little on acceleration, and a little hum on the highway.

I had a local shop cut out my stock muffler and weld in a dynomax bullet and dump it before the axle. Total for everything (including ordering the muffler from summit) was $80. The shop used my stock tailpipe as a tundown.

I am finishing up my cat back install I got from Summit Racing. It is the Summit brand 3" mandrel bent pipe kit from the Y back. I put a Hooker muffler in instead of the cheap one that came with it, and a nice Magnaflow stainless steel tip. Fits good, although I had to cut 7 inches off of the I pipe, and I am going to shorten the tail pipe some to get the tip closer to the tire than the bumper. I will have about $230 all together in it.

I welded in a 12259 magnaflow and had to use a short section of 3" pipe.Sounds great and a noticable difference in throttle response.
