SSHOTRODS has done a small Comp cam swap with some minor head work. His results were good for overall drivability and would reatain much of your lowend torque while raising HP. If you desire to make more peak power (more duration and/or tighter LSA cams) the powerband tends to shift higher and towing will be more an issue. You will get the "cammy" lope you are looking for this way but low speed drivability will suffer.

You may want to shoot John an e-mail. I know he has some audio on his site but I don't think he has any with the H/C set-up. Knowing John, he will probally post some new audio soon.

I don't think that his cam would have a very "lopey" idle, definately not stock but the duration and LSA would suggest this cam would be very mild.

Stock tuning is OK but can be improved upon as it is nowhere near optimal with the improved head flow and the cam.

I thought he (SSHOTRODS) might chime in to answer the questions, but since he is not I will answer them for yall. He is a buddy of mine and i help him out with his mods.

After driving his truck (and racing him) there is a small loss of low end torque but the 3500+ rpm hp more than makes up for it. You can really feel the truck pickup after 4K and will pull all the way to the 6100 shift. I havent riden in it while he was spraying yet but I bet it is a real kick in the pants with the new cam because of the split duration. The cam has a small lope to it but is really only noticeable to the trained ear. To the adverage joe it just sounds like he has a different sounding exhaust. Tunning is not required for this cam but I believe he has a few more ponies to gain if he did get some custom tunning done. All in all I think this is a good cam for the 5.3 trucks if you are looking for a higher performace truck rather than a tow truck.

Thanks for the info BIGKID. Has John got the converter put in yet or made any passes with the existing combo?

Hyde:

He's just memeber with a lot of info on truck performance goodies (from s-10 to c/k 1500 tech.) He doesn't sell anything.

Red2k:

You don't NEED a converter with this cam but it would produce better ET with one. I would be curious to see this cam with a few extra degrees of advance ground in to help those searching for a good torque cam.

FEW EXTRA DEGREES OF TIMING FROM THE AIR TEMP RELO? WOULD A Z06 CAM PERFORM BETTER
