whipple injector swap. ATTN: etc
#1
and anyone else who has any info. I ordered the 8.1 marine injectors and a new tune from Allen so I can get rid of the Whipple computer. I need to know exactly how to remove the computer. I have the old style 2 pulley system on a 2002 GMC Sierra 2500HD 6.0L. I don't have the wiring quick disconnect plug that whipple now makes. everything is soldered.
once i get all of the wires unhooked, do i then completely remove the whipple computer? if so, isn't the boost-a-pump hooked up to the whipple computer?
Also, I am interested in the other mod etc was talking about. something to do with a solenoid. I can't make heads or tails of it. Is it different on my 2 pulley setup?

hey denali, about the boost a pump. i still have'nt had time to mess with it, but with the computer disconnected i still have adequate pressure to push the larger inj's. whether it's the fact that the boost a pump has it's own power supply or that it just isn't necessary i can't say yet [ i'll try to get on that], but, on the single belt it works. if someone knows all the differences between the two setups please jump in. you need to return the wiring to stock, whether you physically remove the computer is up to you. all the modified signals are routed through the pcm to the whipple computer so returning the wiring to stock takes it out of the loop. as far as the solonoid is concerned, i don't have your system so you're going to have to work with me here. under the compressor there should be a diaphram [round black] this diaphram controls the butterfly valve that controls the boost. if the diaphram only has 1 vacumn line coming out , you don't have it. if there are 2 lines coming out, one should go to the solonoid. the solonoid has one line from the diaphram and another back into the compressor, it also has an electrical plug on it which goes to the whipple computer. if you figure out you have it, refer to the post "nelson tune for whipple" or we can go over it again here. i'm fairly sure allen nelson will know the difference between the two setups, i just got an updated tune, when i send him my logs i'll ask. or allen if you happen to see this, jump in. if your truck has a warning light, i'm guessing it also has the "active boost control" which is the solonoid. as far as wiring is concerned, if you don't have a wiring diagram be careful, there are two large plugs on the computer, one is red one is blue. the plugs may have redundant colors so you need to pay attention where they are coming from. on mine the maf color is yellow from red plug pin 31 while the ect is also yellow it's blue plug pin 74. mine is easy because the ect is only tapped while the maf is intercepted. hope that didn't confuse you further, just want you to be careful. hopefully someone with your setup will jump in, or i can get some info from allen. e
